Example of TPS in F&B Department

1. Reservation System

This system can be used in the F&B Department such as in the restaurants and bars. It is apparent that the system is very useful. Customers can make a reservation via the system easily. Once a booking is made the available resources need to be reduced by the same number or resources and transaction records will be updated in the database. For example, the restaurant has a total of 60 seats, when customers log on to the systems and reserved 2 seats then the available seats will be automatically deducted to 58 seats.

2. Point of Sale (POS)

POS is the system that is in place for purchases involving EFTPOS (electronic funds transfer at point of sale). The POS is very functional. For F&B Department in the hotels, when a transaction takes place, details are typed in and any required credit card payment are made, then coded inventory data is sent through to update the database and the inventory, also bank balance is updated. With a POS system:

  • You can analyze sales data, figure out how well all the items on your shelves sell, and adjust purchasing levels accordingly. So you can see what dish is the most popular and what dish is difficult to sell.
  • You can maintain a sales history to help adjust your buying decisions for seasonal purchasing trends. What to order more and what should be order less eg. Order more fish but less chicken.
  • You can improve pricing accuracy by integrating bar-code scanners and credit card authorization ability with the POS system.
